Store

...coming soon

Local Works Store will be selling processed raw materials and salvaged building components as and when they become available through our work, or sourced locally to us in Sussex as deconstruction / excavation waste, and through sustainable land management practices.

We will soon be adding the first batch of our Clay/Chalk plaster to the Store.

The plaster is distinctive for its naturally pale tone, due to the chalk content. Most clays in the UK are high in iron, which gives them a red, yellow ochre, or brown tone. This plaster provides a pale, neutral base for interior walls and ceilings. The dry plaster is similar in colour to Pantone 11-0608 TCX.

Provenance
The material used to make this plaster was collected as excavation waste from a construction site in East Sussex. In this location, it occurs as a thin geological deposit – a natural blend of clay and chalk. Our stock of this material is finite, currently sufficient to produce around 10 tons of plaster/mortar, which we will release in several batches. The raw material was transported five miles from the excavation site to our studio for processing into plaster.

Description
Our clay/chalk plaster is a medium to coarse-grade material, best applied internally onto masonry and earth walls, timber laths, wattle panels, straw bale walls or wood wool plastering boards. A minimum thickness of 6 mm is recommended, allowing for an even, flat finish while enhancing humidity regulation and room acoustics. Applying multiple layers (two coats or more) further improves indoor air quality through increased moisture regulation.

Declaration
This product contains only a natural blend of clay, chalk and sand
